4th Annual Washington DC Weekend Trip!
Washington DC - our nation's capital!
May 15 to May 17, 2019 (Friday morning to Sunday evening)
Early Bird Price runs is $429 until March 27th. So Beware the Ides of March and sign up here ASAP!
COVID-19 Update on St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) - as of now, we are still planning to hold this trip as long as cycling remains a healthy risk-free activity. We are monitoring government policy and should cycling no longer be healthy - we will take the apporpriate decision. We have decided to leave Early Bird pricing for those who want to plan something for after the crisis abates which we hope will be soon and we will monitor day by day
Regular Price: $459 will then be available until we sell out
Double Occupancy - we will pair you up if you are not coming with a friend - if you need single occupancy, sign up above and then pay the additional fee here.
Transportation: Our goal is to go by Motor Coach again this year. WE WILL TRANSPORT YOUR BIKES FOR YOU!
Lodging: Double occupancy in REALLY NICE hotel rooms located in a DC suburb along the Red Line Metro. CLOSER by one stop that last year and a MUCH nicer hotel!
Meals: You are responsible for your own food expense. There will be many options available.
Mileage: Mostly flat, some hills, We will scout the rides before we go
Leaders: Allan Friedman and Sarit Levy
A cycling weekend in Washington DC for less than the cost of an air ticket or the train (have you seen their prices lately??) - $429!
That’s right, a 3 day, 2 night, fun filled trip to Washington DC for just $429 (based on shared occupancy - reach out to Allan if you need your own room).
Friday morning we meet at a convenient location to load our bus or vans - if we get enough people we go by bus else by 15 passenger vans.
We hit the road by LATEST 8am (earlier if possible) to arrive at our hotel by 1pm.
Further details of the individual rides will be posted as available, here’s what’s available now:
Included in price:
- Transportation NYC to Washington DC and back
- 2 nights hotel accommodation (double occupancy - you will share a room with another cyclist)
- Registration for the DC Bike Ride Saturday morning.
Not included in price:
- Metro Rides (You will have the option if you want to do more riding to ride Saturday and Sunday morning a repeat of what we do Friday)
The cost for 3 days of riding and 2 nights Major Name Brand Hotel accommodation is $399 (double occupancy)! We will be staying in Rockville Maryland. We won’t have to deal with DC traffic this way, get a MUCH better deal on a nicer hotel, and can do quite a bit of riding, and because of proximity to the Metro - enjoy night riding in DC without having to deal with getting back by bike.
Note: this is one suggested itinerary below. In each of the past two years that we have run this ride, we have had to deal with the realities of weather and traffic impacting the trip - but, we have always adjusted the following basic plan and done most of what is described just perhaps changing the order and flow based on external factors. Being flexible is important and we have had very positive feedback on the quality of our past trips and hope to exceed prior years experiences.
Friday we will leave by 8am (earlier if possible) and arrive around 1pm in the DC area. Plenty of great meal options right near where we will start riding. We will ride into DC and then around all the monuments and then pick one of a number of places to eat near the Metro. NO MEALS INCLUDED - so you can spend as much or as little on food - but we will make sure you have many options from which to choose. We will see the monuments at night and then ride the Metro back to our hotel.
Saturday - there is a local ride similar to the Five Borough Bike Tour in NYC - only about 20 miles in length. The ride should end late morning / early afternoon and has a really fun afterparty in the heart of DC. We will have riding options but some may opt to tour the many free museums and sites that Washington has to offer, or do another longer ride (eg. Zoo anyone?) in the area that will be offered as an option. Details will be provided and worked out with those who sign up.
Sunday, we will depart by Metro to the city and then ride out to Virginia, seeing Arlington National Cemetery and then the sites on our way to and back from Mt. Vernon - DC namesake George Washington’s home. We will arrive back to the city before sundown and have dinner in the city and see the sites again at night. This give us two options in case there is rain on one of the nights in DC. We will leave back for New York after dinner - so it’s three pretty full days of riding, sightseeing and fun dinners with 5BBC members who join.
For more information, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org and include a phone number and best times to reach you if you would like a call back
We hope to see you on this ride
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Running weekend trips is challenging in an all-volunteer non-profit. In order to assure the financial viability of a trip - the club has a firm NO REFUND policy for any reason. At the same time, if there is a wait list - we will refund where possible to sell the spot to someone waiting for one to come free due to unforeseen circumstances.
