A 3 day, 2 night, fun filled cycling trip to Washington DC for just $399 (based on shared occupancy - reach out to Allan5bbc@gmail.com if you need your own room).

Included in price:

  • Transportation from Manhattan to Washington DC and back
  • 2 nights hotel accommodation (double occupancy - you will share a room with another cyclist)

Not included in price:

  • Meals
  • Metro Rides (optional - those who want to ride more can ride more and those who wants to ride less, there will be drop out opportunities close to metro)

Friday morning we meet in lower Manhattan (detailed loading and location details will be provided to those who sign up).

We hit the road by LATEST 8am (earlier if possible) to arrive at our hotel by 1pm.

Further details of the individual rides will be posted as available, here’s what’s available now:

The cost for 3 days of riding and 2 nights Hotel accommodation is $399 (double occupancy)!

We will be staying in a close Maryland suburb outside DC. We won’t have to deal with DC traffic this way, get a MUCH better deal on a nicer hotel, and can do quite a bit of riding through Beautiful scenery, and because of proximity to the Metro - enjoy night riding in DC without having to deal with getting back by bike.

Rough Itinerary (last year we did Mount Vernon on Friday and may do the same - we adjust based on weather and traffic realities encountered on the weekend of the actual trip)

  1. Friday we will leave by 8am (earlier if possible) and arrive around 1pm to our hotel. Plenty of great meal options right near where we will start riding. We will ride into DC and then around all the monuments and then pick one of a number of places to eat near the Metro. NO MEALS INCLUDED - so you can spend as much or as little on food - but we will make sure you have many options from which to choose. We will see the monuments at night and then ride the Metro back to our hotel.
  2. Saturday - we will ride out to Virginia, seeing Arlington National Cemetery and then the sites on our way to and back from Mt. Vernon - DC namesake George Washington’s home. We will arrive back to the city before sundown and have dinner in the city and see the sites again at night. This give us two options in case there is rain on one of the nights in DC.
  3. Sunday - first time this year we will ride out to Virginia to see some amazing falls and then have brunch at a wonderful location before returning by Metro to our hotel and shuttling back to New York before sundown so people who work early Monday can easily rest up from the weekend and make it to work the next day

We will leave back for New York after an earlyish brunch- so it’s three pretty full days of riding, sightseeing and fun dinners with 5BBC members who sign up.

For more information, please e-mail allan5bbc@gmail.com and include a phone number and best times to reach you if you would like a call back. We hope to see you on this ride

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Running weekend trips is challenging in an all-volunteer non-profit. In order to assure the financial viability of a trip - the club has a firm NO REFUND policy for any reason. At the same time, if there is a wait list - we will refund where possible to sell the spot to someone waiting for one to come free due to unforeseen circumstances.

Who are the leaders?

Sarit Levy: I ride for fitness, for being outdoors and for spending time with other members of the cycling community. I like socially paced rides because I like to see and enjoy the scenery of all the different places that bike riding allows me to visit. I graduated the 5BBC Leadership class in 2016.

Allan Friedman: I consider myself a social cyclist and enjoy riding not only for fitness but for the ability it gives me to explore my surroundings wherever I am and make new friends. I’m a member of several clubs in the area, but enjoy the 5BBC the most because it truly is New York’s Friendliest Bike Club and I have met literally hundreds of new and interesting friends since joining just over 5 years ago.

The club has a unique leadership development program which I took in 2014, and have been developing and leading rides ever since. The club supports five levels of riding from Happy Face (aka easy) to Quick Spin (fast) and I enjoy riding at various levels, depending on my goal.

Most of the time, I prefer the focus not be on speed but interesting destinations. But I also like riding fundraisers for worthy causes, and those usually involve longer rides like Centuries, and the 5BBC Spring Training Series has proven indispensable in getting me up to speed early in the season so I can take on various centuries. My first was Seagull in Maryland, but I have since done Montauk, Westhampton, Baltimore to Dewey Beach, Boston to Newport and most recently Houston to Galveston.

Originally from Montreal, Canada, and now a citizen of the US as well, the club asked me to re-establish it’s Weekend Trip to Montreal in 2015. We’ve had 3 every successful trips since, and I added Washington DC to my repertoire last year - developing that for the club. As you can see, I have a lot to say but know enough to let people snooze on the bus home after a long day of fun riding and sightseeing.

I am most happy when we grab lunch on any ride, it’s a chance to rest and connect with friends old and new.

What's the refund policy?

The 5BBC Club official policy is no refunds. In certain situations where the team managing the trip and the club board agree, a refund may be made when someone can take the place of a participant requesting a refund.

Are there ID or minimum requirements to participate in the trip?

18 years of age and a fun, friendly attitude! You MUST be a member of the 5BBC to join this particular ride. Please sign up here. It's only $25 ($30 for two at the same address) for a full year of cycling and insures our leaders and you.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the trip?

All this will be taken care of - but if you want to drive down for any reason, we can work with you on an exception basis - we are not looking to do this via carpool.

What can I bring along on the trip?

One small soft-sided bag that can fit under the seat else if we have space where the bikes go, if there is room. It's a three day cycling weekend so pack light!
