Cut off by highways and industry, the Hunts Point Section of the Bronx is not easy to get to.  The poorest neighborhood in the Bronx still holds its dangerous reputation. One of the oft forgotten corners of NYC, prostitution, drugs, and crime still wreck havoc on this area.  But, if you know where to look, this overlooked area holds some surprises that are worth seeing.

  In this ride we will visit a Cass Gilbert designed Railroad Station, the Sunnyside Mansion, The Rodman Drake/Slave's Burial Ground, and take the new bike lane into the sprawling Hunts Point Food Market.  We will visit the two parks in the area, Baretto Point and Hunts Point.  On the way back we will ride through the Longwood Historic District, pass Yankee Stadium, and return to Manhattan by the Macombs Dam Bridge.  We enter Central Park, climb the Harlem Meer Hill - and we are home.

Lunch is a Landin Mac & Cheese in the Melrose Section of The Bronx.  Gooey, rich, and delicious, with various flavors to chose from.  I love their Mexican Mac n Cheese.  Order a large at your own risk.

Needless to say, some of the Roads on this voyage are less than scenic.  This is a hard scrabble and hard working part of The Bronx, and this is reflected in the roads.  You must be comfortable riding in an urban environment.  TAKE - a sturdy lock, money for lunch, and an inquisitive attitutde.  NOTE - this ride is limited to 12 people as Landin is tiny and twelve will barely fit.
