Westchester County Car & Truck Show
This will be a fun ride to, and then local tour at, Westchester's wonderful annual Car/Truck/Motorcyle Show, at scenic Glen Island Park along New Rochelle's waterfront, just north along the coastline from Orchard Beach.
The car show typically attracts 300-400 vehicular entrants, showcasing a wide variety of collectible cars, motorcycles, street rods, and trucks, restored to mint/concours condition or modified for performance, and all lovingly polished to high gloss sheen. Admission is free, there's reasonably priced paid parking if anyone wants to meet us up there, and no county residency or fee is required to get onto the island park as it's post-Labor Day. Plus what the heck; you can even take a dip via the white sand crescent beach if you like! Food trucks will be on site for the event, or BYO lunch, there's plenty of neat picnic spots. https://parks.westchestergov.com/car-and-truck-show
The park itself is quite interesting. It was created in 1879 as a summer resort by former US Congressman Starin (who owned a large transportation company which included nearly every tugboat in the NYC harbor). This site was considered America's first theme park (beating out Disney for that!), and attracted thousands of visitors daily. Originally it had 5 separate, interconnected islands displaying a cornucopia of delights from the 5 Western cultures, plus amusements/adventures, and a casino/restaurant that was a must-do on the Big Band entertainment circuit. Some original walkways and structures remain. Check it out; it's really fascinating: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starin's_Glen_Island .
Ride as a group; no Point/Drop/Sweep unless needed for a tricky location/turn. Cue sheet and maps.google route will be provided in advance to registered riders. Most of the route will be on paths and streets we've used on other rides, with varied pavement conditions, with some "new" portions so good humor and a spirit of adventure will make it all the more fun. Limited to 12 riders. Many subway options available as bail points, plus some MetroNorth stations.
