Smith Point TWA Flight 800 Memorial
Come join us for a new variation of this ride. We ride mostly on the flat south shore, but with a new addition north of Mastic that we will be exploring and scouting. We ride from Sayville east to Smith Point and the location of the TWA Flight 800 Memorial on part of the barrier islands that includes Fire Island. Some scenic new areas on this 50-55 or so mile, fairly flat ride ride.
The ride is accessible by both automobile and LIRR. We start at about 9:45 at the Sayville LIRR train station. A train arrives at about that time. Also, the ride is an advanced moderate ride with no real bailouts, so please be able to ride 14mph or better on the flats.
A caveat: certain parts of the ride are fairly new, so be prepared for a whoops or two.
Normally, we would stop and pick up lunch, but under the current circumstances, please bring your lunch, snacks and sufficient hydration, as it is very unlikely that we will stop to pick up food. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore new and unknown areas.
IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS: A reminder that you must register for the ride. Please 'unregister' if you can not make the ride so waited list folks can move up and take the slot. All riders should come equipped with a mask, hand sanitizer/wipes, a spare tube, sunscreen, snacks and a bike in good condition, as well as being familiar with the current criteria for riding with the Club.
