On the Trail of the Lenapes: 5 Bridges
A last-chance Jersey Shore ride as we hunker down for the fall-winter.
But we'll keep at eye on the co-vid surge that is expected in October, so this ride may not go out.
FYI, My Kitchen Witch is open and there is indoor and outdoor dining. Big Mike's Little Red Store will be used for a quick snack, bathroom stop.
Finally, as this is a train ride out and back, we want to limit the cyclists (and I am sure the conductors on NJ Transit will as well), so only six riders will be allowed, and our sign up with be purged, so you'll need to sign up again with limit at SIX (There is no wait list.)
A slow spin is a steady pace that doesn't bust it for you. We'll be riding some lovely flat coastal routes, across five bridges (or causeways) with a breakfast stop at My Kitchen Witch Cafe in Monmouth Beach (the french toast and pancakes are fantastic!), another (quick) stop at Booskerdoo Roastery for their signature Black and Tan coffee, then onto the Highlands, for a spectacular view of the coastline (if we decide to climb). This is a short 25-mile ride and slightly off-season, so expect cool ocean breezes and moderate to low traffic. When we last visited, l was at the rustic eatery, the Navasink Country Store. Under new owners, it's called Big Mike's Little Red Store --a bit unscale, but still worth a try.
Cue sheet and map can be found here.
Meet up Amtrak Waiting Area, near the escalators at 31 and 8th Avenue, at 8:45 AM. Vending machines and ticket window are nearby, as well as escalators to the train. We'll board the 9:07 AM to Little Silver.
