Shirley Chisholm State Park Ride - (Brooklyn)
"Its' a New Chisholm Trail!" Not to be confused with The Old Chisholm Trail which was a cattle drive from Texas to Kansas, this Chisholm Trail ride honors the late and fiery Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm with a beautiful State Park in the heart of Jamaica Bay. Ms. Chisholm, a Brooklynite whose causes such as remedial programs to help disadvantaged youth get into college, and food stamps programs like WIC left her mark on history. She was the first African American congresswoman, and the first African American woman from the Democratic Party to run for the presidency. And the park? Its beautiful vistas of The Manhattan Skyline while being surrounded by sea grass, hills, and shore birds will have you amazed that this reclaimed and beautiful land stands on top of what was once the largest landfill in New York City. The ride will include city street riding, You will also want a bike that can handle a few hard-packed gravel trails (similar to a Rails to Trails bed). Bring a lock, your own lunch, sunscreen, and follow all required 5BBC Covid-19 rules. Rain at start cancels.
