Volunteers Needed for Summer Streets

What's Summer Streets?  The city is closing down Park Avenue and Lafayette Street to make a car free route from 72nd Street down to the Brooklyn Bridge.  See http://nyc.gov/summerstreets for the full story.

5BBC is once again staffing a bike repair / information table on the route, at East 24th Street and Park Avenue South.  And once again, we need volunteers to help us during the event, from 7 AM to 1 PM on Saturday August 1, August 8, and August 15.

What do the volunteers do? If you can do any of these things:

  • pump tires
  • fix flats
  • fix minor chain, brake, or gear issues
  • help answer beginner cycling questions about commuting, clothing, where to bike, etc.
  • help answer questions about the Club

Then you can help us help the cycling public!

Additionally, if you don't know much about bike repair but want to learn, you can "shadow" any of our senior mechanics at the table - they will happily explain what they are doing and share their expertise.

If you'd like to volunteer, please send a note to Ed Ravin (eravin at panix.com) and mention which Saturday(s) (8/1, 8/8, or 8/15) and what hours you can help.  We need the most coverage between 9 AM and noon.
