Whether you're into road touring or braving it over the dirt, whether you're a seasoned cyclist or a beginner, the Five Borough Bicycle Club has something for you.

Now in its 17th year, the 5BBC is New York's friendliest bike club. Our philosophy is to promote both the physical challenge and the social benefits of life on two wheels.

We offer free day rides within New York City and environs every weekend year-round. We go to the beach and the mountains and most places in between. We also offer affordable weekend trips to Cape Cod, the Berkshires, Pennsylvania Dutch country, and elsewhere. All club rides are led by 5BBC-trained leaders who make sure you enjoy your biking adventure safely, without getting lost, or getting stuck with mechanical troubles.

We believe that an educated rider is a safe rider, and bicycling education is a core part of our mission. On our day rides and weekend trips, we teach how to ride safely in traffic, proper use of hand signals, rules of the road, the importance of always riding with a helmet, and how to quickly inspect your bike before each ride to make sure it's in safe operating condition. We teach free bicycle repair and maintenance classes to help club members keep their vehicles in tip-top condition. Our monthly meetings include presentations on bicycle touring, bicycle advocacy, fitness training and sports medicine, and bicycle art and culture. And we offer and subsidize a five-week course in leadership, bike repair, first aid, and ride-design skills for those who aspire to become our ride leaders.

We do all of this for a downright paltry membership fee of just $20 a year. Membership gets you our bi-monthly Bicycletter, including a complete list of our rides, courses, and, most importantly, a list of the bike shops that offer discounts to our members.
