A Ramble along the Connecticut Shore

7:00am

35-40 miles / Moderate / Starting at Grand Central Terminal

Ah, Memorial Day Weekend is finally here and what better way to celebrate than to hit the back roads of coastal Connecticut. Sandy Hook 21th Anniversary Ride

8:00am

25 miles / Moderate / Starting at Pier 11

I have led this 5BBC ride since 1998, inspired after recovering from a broken thumb on the then-5BBC Montauk Century. Sandy Hook was a former military installation, now a National Recreation Area, a Federal Park on the north tip of the famed Jersey Shore. We’ll leave on the 8:15AM Pier 11 Seastreak ferry. It will be worth your while. Once on the Hook, the starting miles will be on a nice bike path. We’ll go beyond the park to the town of Sea Bright, then through nice parts of Middletown, climbing to Mt. Mitchill Lookout. We will descend to the town of Atlantic Highlands. From... more

Mostly rolling terrain with some steep hills. This route is super-scenic, including waterfalls, forested paths and stunning views from the Kensico Dam. Early return via Metro-North Harlem Line possible anywhere along route, ask leaders at start for... more
