Briarcliff Manor #2
Due to the forecast of rain (%60 chance all day), we're postponing this ride until May 16.
We will ride the Bronx River Greenway to its termination at Kensico Dam Plaza. We had originally scheduled a ride on the Putnam/South County/North County to Briarcliff Manor. However, the South County might be closed for construction.
If you're used to riding the Putnam line, you will find the BRG to be very different. The Putnam is nearly straight and level with grades under 2% and no surprises. The BRG, however, has sharp turns, short but steep hills, unpaved and sometimes muddy sections, narrow bridges to go over, and low bridges to go under. After we get on the BRG at mile 6 you can forget about the listed "moderate" pace; we will keep a safe speed in challenging conditions. This ride will be good training for your patience as well as your fitness.
Participation is limited to 12 riders. Everyone else gets wait-listed. It's common for spots to become available on a first-come-first-serve basis to those waitlisted. You'll receive an email if a spot becomes available to you.
This ride is also being offered on Friday 4/9. You're not permitted to participate in both rides. You can wait-list for both but if a slot opens on one you must delist from the other.
Please be aware that the lists of “completed” participants vs those still waiting might not be accurate. Participants will be officially notified by email starting 1 week before the ride.
Ride start is in the vicinity of Van Cortlandt Park. The email confirming your participation will include the meeting place and cue sheet.
Check your email before setting out. Any changes will be emailed to registered participants by 8:00 AM on ride day.
Please use the rest room at the ride start. The first rest room stop is at mile 13.
Lunch is outdoors at Kensico Dam Plaza. Bring your own or food can be purchased at the rest stop and carried to our lunch stop. A string bag or pannier works well for carrying food.
If you need a more extreme workout you can ride to the top of the dam. We will wait in the plaza. And laugh at you.
If you will not be riding, you must remove yourself from the list. Failure to follow this instruction could get you restricted from signing up in the future.
Other stuff: Helmets are required on all NYCC rides. Carry a spare tube and water. We're still in a pandemic so wear a face covering and keep social distance.
