Brookfield Park #2 - A birder's delight
Breaking news: Participant maximum has been increased to 12 riders! The "Complete" (participant) and "Wait list" lists on the right side of this page might not be accurate. We will email participants with meet-up location and GPS/cue sheet 1 week before the ride.
This is a second instance of the 9:30 Brookfield ride. Same route. Same mileage.
After arriving in Staten Island, we'll head west along a northern route until mid-island. From there, we'll head south for Brookfield Park, a nature refuge that was once a landfill. Dependng on the temperature and weather, we may see warblers, raptors (hawks, falcons, eagles), cardinals, bluejays, as well as other birds. After a picnic lunch, we'll head back to the ferry for Manhattan. For more info about Brookfield Park, click here, and here.
Bring lunch. We will eat outdoors in or near the park but will not be stopping to pick up food.
Meet-up instructions and GPS/cue sheet will be emailed to registered participants.
Please arrive early enough to use the restroom in the ferry terminal. The first (and only) rest stop is around mile 12.
Participation is limited to 8 riders. Everyone else gets wait-listed. If you're on the wait list, you will get an email when a slot opens. The club website may not update your wait list status.
Important: you must remove yourself from the list (or email the ride leader firstname.lastname@example.org) if you will not be riding. Failure to follow this instruction could get you restricted from signing up in the future.
Check your email before setting out. Any changes will be emailed to registered participants by 8:00 AM on ride day. Helmets are required on all 5BBC rides. Bring a spare tube and water. We're still in a pandemic so wear a face covering and keep social distance.
