Babylon/Heckscher - A New Beach Bum on the Flat South Shore
This is a brand new and different Beach Bum ride where we ride (over 40 miles) but also spend time frolicking at the beach/picnic area. It is definitely a ride not to be missed. We meet at the Babylon LIRR train station and then takes an indirect, scenic, fun meandering route to Heckscher State Park where we will spend a couple of hours with the opportunity to swim in the Great South Bay, spend time on the beach, explore the park, or just hang in the picnic area with your lunch and friends. The ride back is straighter and on more active roads. Hechscher is a large park with multiple beach areas. We will utilize one right by a picnic area.
We meet at about 9:45 by the main terminal area at the Babylon train station. There is a train from the City scheduled to arrive at Babylon at 9:46. If you are driving to Babylon and can take a rider and their bike, please let me know. Babylon is a very active station and there are quite a few trains headed back to the City from Babylon.
IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS: This is not a happy face Beach Bum Ride. Ride is over 40 miles and you must be able to keep a 13mph or greater pace. In order to participate, you must email me and register so we can work the logistics in terms of timing. On the ride to Hechscher, we will stop at a bagel place to pick up lunch, which we will bring to the park (bring something to carry your lunch, it’s still a ride to the park from the bagel shop). Lunch will be a picnic at the park. Please bring hydration, snacks, lock, a swimsuit if you want to go in the water, your picnic lunch or money for lunch. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore new and unknown areas.
