Cherry Blossom Ride #2 2019
UPDATED April 15th: PLEASE NOTE NEW DATE Sunday April 28 - 9:45 am and NEW MEETING LOCATION. Penn Station. We're aiming to be on the NJ Transit train to Newark leaving at 10:07am. We're meeting at the lower concourse level of Penn Station (same level as subways) Track 4 near where there are ticket machines. We're taking NJT because PATH took so long on the April 13 ride.. (if you miss this train there is one 7 minutes later, but don't aim for that!) We will return by PATH most likely to Herald Square.
The first wave of cherry blossoms peaked the weekend of April 13-14 on schedule, so we expect the second wave, the big pink Kwanza cherry blossoms to peak April 27-28. Let's go for those. This picture shows those.
This is the annual Cherry Blossom ride, initiated in the 1970s by Irv Weisman, to enjoy the increasing number of blossoms in Branch Brook Park, Newark and Belleville, NJ. This park has more cherry trees than in Washington, DC and they add more every year. Bring your camera.
We will enjoy the blossoms for a while then head off for Bloomfield or Montclair, eating in a diner or if it's nice out, a picnic.
Cancellation conditions: 50% chance of rain. Radar showing imminent or predicted precipitation during the ride. High wind warning.
