Purim Shpeeler Circle Manhattan 2-Wheeler St. Patties Day Edition!
HAMANTASHEN Included for those of you who register! (If you don't know what these are - you really won't regret signing up for this ride).
aka: Start Spring Training Early and Easy, A Hamantashen, perhaps a synagogue, but certainly a TRADITION! (For your Broadway enthusiasts - this is where Tevya breaks into song ;)
WAIT! STOP THE PRESSES! It's also St. Patrick's Day Today - so, we will circle Manhattan giving equal time to Irish heritage at start and end of the ride. And, not to be out-done, green and orange Irish treats will also be served alongside their Jewish/Israelite treats.
It is the Jewish holiday of Purim next week (March 20 eve / 21 day) so what better way to celebrate the start of spring (yes, it's just around the corner!) and spring training than to run a modified version of the Manhattan Perimeter ride. We may sprinkle in a few lost synagogues and other Jewish buildings of note - but the ride is being optimized so you can start and have 10, 15, 20 or 25 miles of mostly "Straightaway" riding around the circumference of Manhattan to begin your season and get back into the swing of things on your bike.
This will be mostly a Moderate ride as we start at City Hall and make our way north along the East side and over to Inwood where we find a few buildings that used to be synagogues and are now serving other purposes. We will then come down the west side Greenway and finish in the Lower East Side checking out a few synagogues and one of many great places available for a "nosh" aka Yiddish for FOOD! Most likely we will stop at Fairway coming down the west side if weather permits the first picnic of the season - otherwise, we will improvise finding a nice place to eat along the way. Don't let this being MODERATE stop those of you who need a Happy Face way to start spring - you can do it! We will be patient but the goal is to try and get our speed back!
This ride will be focussed on spring training.... getting going! So, the front will move at a true moderate pace but Point-Drop-Sweep will let you go as fast as you can and not worry if you reach your limit. You will have drop off points - but in the spirit of training - our sweeps will be gently encouraging you to push and ride your fastest.
When this ride was originally conceived, we thought of having a class to teach how to make Hamantashen - but that would add 1-2 hours to the ride, so we decided to skip that.
