Waterfront Cruise to Breakfast @ IKEA, & Back

8:30am

17 miles / Moderate / Start Location TBD

Our scenic, brisk sortie starts at the Chelsea Pier Carousel, circumnavigates the lower Manhattan waterfront, crosses the Manhattan Bridge, then cruises the Brooklyn waterfront. It's mostly bike paths and off-street riding. We arrive with deserving appetites for a casual IKEA food court breakfast nosh. That area opens 9:30 AM (1/2 hour earlier than main store).  Exiting via the food shopping mall will also give us a quick opportunity to stock up on some packaged ethnic takeaways. Then we zip across Brooklyn to the Wille-B and our Manhattan re-entry. Estimated return at Willie B (bridge)... more

A ride to Middletown

9:00am

65+ miles / Advanced Moderate / Starting at George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal

Ever heard of Middletown? Nope? Me neither, until recently.

We're heading way out of the city and into some great open roads up north.
The air will be crisp, the weather will be great (fingers crossed) and the wide open roads will make you smile.

Our destination in Middletown is one of the fine breweries located there. We'll decide which one based on how friendly they are to bikes when we get there (no worries, I know at least one of them will accept us).

The ride ends here and transportation back to NYC is via New Jersey Transit train a few miles... more

Tour de Bronx

Ride the TdeBx with 5BBC compadres

10:00am

25 miles / Advanced Moderate / Start Location TBD

This is a terrific, FREE, annual event celebrating a less traveled borough of The Big Apple, and we're forming a small group to ride the 25 mile distance.  The route is fun and diverse over bike lanes, bike trails, NYC streets, and the myriad of settings those bring up.  Plus it's pretty durn FLAT with only 600'ish altitude gain over our entire course.  And there's a neat finish line festival in Bronx Botanical Gardens (plus Arthur Ave section is a short bike hop away!)

It's easy pedaling with at times lots of other cyclists around us, so definitely, good riding and bike handling... more

Columbus Day from Columbus Circle to NRNY

NRNY is the new campaign for New Rochelle New York - come see what's New AND OLD in New Rochelle

9:00am

20-30-40-50-60 miles / Happy Face / Starting at Columbus Circle

How could we not have a ride from Columbus Circle on Columbus Day? But where to go?

New Rochelle has some amazing history - too vast to cover in one ride.

I have stumbled upon a treasure trove of history and will share it with you on this and future rides I plan to lead that explore this great town (where I happen to live these days) - one of the original "suburbs". So original, in fact, that while Carl Reiner lived here writing and performing on Sid Caesar's show of shows in the 50's, it became the prototype for The Dick Van Dyke show, which Carl wrote, and where Rob and... more
