East End Ride

Saturday, June 11, 2016 - 07:30

Come join us for a cycling jaunt on the east end of Long Island from Westhampton to Greenport. Part of the ride is scouting, but no fear as your leader  knows the roads having grown up in the area. We will modify the ride as needed to be less or more mileage depending on the group consensus.  A few of us will be doing a century the day before.

The ride requires you to get to the start location at the Westhampton train station. You can get there on your own or via the LIRR To Westhampton.  This trip costs about $20.50 one way.  Trippers will be responsible for getting on the train on their own, as the leaders of this trip will already be in Westhampton.  In addition if we choose to ride higher mileage, we will be taking a ferry to Shelter Island.   We will be taking the Ferry at least 2 times maybe 4.  If you are interested in this ride please RSVP so we may give you the exact starting point.  We will meet trippers at the Westhampton Train Station.  Although we will have support if need be for mechanicals we are telling trippers this is a self-contained ride.  Any major mechanical issues you will have to possibly get a cab to the train. There are stations on both the South and North Forks of Long Island so we should never be more than 5-10 miles from one.  Bring Rain Gear, money for food and the various tickets explained previously, plus extra tubes (2), a bike lock,  and the usual equipment. The train to Westhampton leaves at 7:45 sharp so I would arrive no later than 7:30.  It's a 2 hour train ride.  If not taking the train, be at the Westhampton train station at 9:30 AM.
