South Brooklyn's Alphabet Cities

Sunday, July 13, 2014 - 09:00

We'll follow a path on or near the water through a number of Brooklyn neighborhoods, with alphabetical street names that put Manhattan to shame! What's so great about A,B,C,D? Try Abbey, Beacon, Canton, Dare, Eaton and Frank -- which happens to be only one of several clusters in only one of the neighborhoods we'll ride through. We'll be going through Kensington, Borough Park, Bensonhurst and Gravesend on the way to our first Alphaville, the old standby of Manhattan Beach. The plot thickens as we work our way through Gerritsen Beach, Mill Basin for a lunch pick-up, and on to Spring Creek. We'll head home through Canarsie and Flatbush. After picking up lunch, we'll dine at the Fresh Creek Nature Preserve 23 miles into the ride. Come with snacks and $ for lunch, along with plenty of water and sunscreen. A lock for your bike is optional. Maximum cruising speed will be 17 mph on long greenway stretches.
