Piermont on Hudson, the back way
Crossing the now infamous George Washington Bridge, we snake through the beautifully landscaped gardens and homes of the wealthy suburbs of Englewood Cliffs, Tenafly, Cresskill, Demarest and Closter, among others, to Piermont, delicately situated on the Hudson river just below the Tappan Zee. This town is a cyclists' haven for a good reason, and is aptly named, being at the foot of a small mountain, with a very long wide "pier" really a constructed area of land that juts a mile into the Hudson, hence Piermont. On the way back we'll do a couple of miles on a bike path before heading back towards the bridge. We take it slow up the Palisades, one bit at a time, not all at once. Road riding experience a must. There is no train bailout possible on this ride.
