Rooftop Garden Gander
Join us and author Leslie Adatto of “111 Rooftops in New York That You Must Not Miss” on a Sunday afternoon ride to visit some great rooftop gardens, and hear the stories behind them.
We will start with several interesting rooftops in and around Lincoln Center, then head down the Hudson River Greenway to see several rooftop parks and gardens around the lower perimeter of Manhattan. The ride continues up the East River Greenway, ending at 3 Mitchell Place in front of the landmark Beekman Hotel. We will be locking the bikes several times to go up on rooftops. Note that bike shoes with cleats should be removed when entering the buildings from which we will access some of the roofs.
There will not be a lunch stop on this ride - eat before you come - but afterward you are welcome to join the leader and author at the Ophelia Lounge - the rooftop greenhouse terrace at the Beekman Hotel. No cleats in the Ophelia, and as it's something of a scene, you may want to bring a change of clothes or just something to pull on over your bike shorts!
This ride is a fun opportunity see another side of New York, and to introduce new riders to the club. Feel free to bring your friends, and do a 2-minute bike check with them beforehand if they haven’t used their bike in a while.
As a reminder of the club 's policies:
• It is an insurance requirement that participants must be members (only $25/year, $30/household). Newcomers who have not ridden with the club are allowed one "test" ride as a guest before they must become a member to ride with the club again.
• Helmets mandatory
