Join us for this epic trip out to Orient Point from Bethpage--and back--all in one day!
Organized by the Long Island Randonneurs.
If you haven't done a brevet before, it's a bit like a treasure hunt where you have to check in at control points as you make your way through the course. Fun!
Course is subject to change but in past years it was like this.
Registration is $30, you need to sign up here by Wednesday.
You have to catch the 4:14 a.m. train to Hicksville at Penn Station to make it to the start on time. Let's meet up at 4:00 a.m. sharp under the LIRR big board at Penn. Beware all the puking teenagers waiting for the train back to the the "'G'Island"!
Note that we are taking the train to Hicksville because train to Bethpage is cancelled to due track work. This means 4.5 bonus miles to ride to the start in Bethpage before the ride. If you ride to and from Penn (or if we get lost during the ride), chances are you will bag a double century!
As this is a quick spin there will be no point-drop-sweep. We'll ride at ~20 MPH on the flats, striving to complete the brevet in about fourteen hours (finish before dark).
Bring pocket food, two water bottles, two spare tubes and air supply, cue sheet holder on handlebars or electronic navigation, LIRR train pass, money for food, ferry fare and trainfare.
NOTE THAT RANDONNEURING RULES REQUIRE YOU TO WEAR A REFLECTIVE VEST AND ANKLE STRAPS AND TO HAVE WORKING BIKE LIGHTS--YOU WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO RIDE WITHOUT THEM.
THIS IS NOT A JOKE--SOME RIDERS WERE REFUSED REGISTRATION IN THE 200K EVENT DUE HAVING ON LY ONE, NOT TWO, REFLECTIVE ANKLE STRAPS AT THE START, OR FOR NO REFLECTIVE VEST (HI-VIS VEST DOES NOT COUNT).
