Greetings to all from your 2018 Prez

Hi there.  Thank you for electing me  President-- to help keep us all pedaling together in 2018. I care a great deal about the Club and will do my best to work for our collective benefit. More fun. More community. Safety and shared good will are always priorities. This is to check in and let you know that the fellow volunteers who you elected to the 2018 Board are talking about and planning for the spring. This is a scatter shot of what I think the year will bring. Events, rides, opportunities to help us all, your 5BBC community.

Looking forward to longer days, more riding, less layering—Sun!!

We are serious about keeping our Club as a place where we are kind, respectful and considerate in all of our interactions with one another—whether in email, in person or on social media. Given the pressures and public discourse with which we find ourselves faced today, last year’s Boardies thought it a good idea that we remind us all of implicit shared expectations of how our current and future friends treat one another in the time we spend together.  You'll find in the ABOUT US pull down menu above, you will find what we Boardies titled a Statement of Club Values.  Nothing that should surprise anyone-- really, I think it just articulates the obvious and encourages us to hold each other accountable for bad behavior.

Ever onward!! Mel is planning a Leader Forum on February 8th so we can get going with what we do best—riding our bicycles hither and yon on day trips. There are also weekend trips in the hopper—the wonderful and ambitious Vermont week trip in July is posted.  Look for repeats of past adventures to Montreal, DC, Bear Mountain and, hopefully, new excursions as well.  Look for evening socials at local watering holes or other places.

With the help of the other Boardies, I hope promote linkages with organizations, like Bike New York, which share elements of our mission and to partner with bike shops—all with the idea of giving our Leaders greater resources to plot and lead more and varied day trips.

Have ideas for adventures you would like to share? April and May bring a new Leadership Training Class with our ever-intrepid Ed Sobin.  Happy Face, Quick Spin, Weekend Trips—we encourage folks to plan and lead trips of the pace and kind that they themselves enjoy.

We hope you will want to lend a hand greeting prospective members and neighbors May 5th at the Bike Expo.

You, too, can help a six-year-old pump air into her prized pink bike – matching handle bar tassles, training wheels and all-- at our Bike Repair Table at Summer Streets the first three Saturdays in August.

It’s never too early to pitch in to help plan our December Holiday Party.

Boring, ongoing matters in which the Board involves itself includes fine tuning our website to make it easier for all of us to contribute content and news and post and sign up for rides.  And making sure that we spend your membership dues wisely.

That’s all for now. Any ideas, praise, comments, complaints? Zap any or all of us an email at the addresses listed on the Board Members section of the About Us pull down.

Here’s to seeing you on the road!

Andrea
